The Cape Cod National Seashore Lifeguard program has been an integral part of the Cape since it’s inception in 1962. Since then, the CCNS lifeguards have saved thousands of lives, and have kept the Seashore's beaches safe for both locals and visitors alike. The lifeguards conduct an extensive junior lifeguard program that teaches young teenagers ocean safety, rescue techniques, and also instructs them in emergency medical procedures. The Seashore employs 50 lifeguards each season who do an outstanding job keeping the Seashore’s beaches safe.
In 2013, we celebrated our 50th Anniversary of the Seashore’s lifeguard program and in recognition of this milestone we created a non-profit organization, the CCNS Lifeguard Alumni Association (CCNSLGAA), with the hopes of raising enough funds to start a beach safety outreach program, support the Seashore’s Junior Lifeguard program, hold lifeguard-oriented competitions, and create a scholarship fund.
This year the CCNSLGAA will be donating 25 chafe shirts to the Junior Lifeguard program. In July, at Newcomb Hollow Beach in Wellfleet we will be holding three lifeguard-oriented competitions, the Lifeguard Challenge Series. These events are open to all Cape and Islands lifeguards. We also will be hosting the 3rd annual Outer Beach Run from Marconi Beach in Wellfleet to Head of the Meadow Beach in Truro on August. At the end of the summer, we again hope to be able to award a scholarship to a Cape Cod lifeguard/student.
We would like you to share in these efforts. Whether it is a money donation or a donation of products and services, we are asking for your help to reach our goals. We hope you come through to help a group which has been a great service to the Cape Cod community and its inhabitants for the last 50+ years. Our organization is concerned about the conservation and safe use of the beaches and waters of Cape Cod.
If any of these subjects are near and dear to you, then please donate. We are so thankful for the Seashore and community we get to work in, so we want to give back to that which has given us so much. With your help, we can. Thank you.
